Rangers chairman hopes Smith commits to team

Glasgow, Scotland (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston has
urged manager Walter Smith to pledge his future to the recently-crowned
Scottish Premier League champions.
Smith, who has been working at the cash-strapped club without a contract since
January, admitted after their title success last weekend that he was unsure
over his Ibrox future beyond this summer.
The veteran manager has been unable to pay transfer fees to sign new players
but still masterminded a title success and Johnson is hoping for some positive
news surrounding his future in the coming weeks.
"This season it has been difficult to try to complete the business plan until
such times as we had won the championship and knew if we were directly
qualified for the Champions League or not," he told the club's official
website.
"Now that we know that we can try to advise Walter as best we can and he can
determine what he does from there.
"Candidly, Walter has to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
"He has a lot of influence and I'm expecting input from him in the next couple
of weeks.
"What we have been doing all year is trying to bring a level of stability to
the club and I think everyone from my colleagues on the board down have tried
to demonstrate that we are not in a panic mode.
"I think the positive outlook is that we came through this season with
everyone doing their job very well.
"Obviously at some point in time you have to reinvest. We need to reinvest in
the infrastructure of Ibrox, you have to reinvest in the team in some form or
other and that's the challenge now.
"The impact of winning the title and qualifying for the Champions League is so
material given our fragile financial status."
