(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Vancouver Canucks will try to extend their overall
nine-game point streak and record their eighth win in their last 10 games
versus the Nashville Predators, as the two clubs square off tonight at GM
Place.
Though they had a four-game winning streak end with Saturday's 3-2 shootout
loss to the Flames, the Canucks are still 7-0-2 in their last nine games. They
did fall one point behind Calgary for first place in the Northwest Division
and are tied for fifth in the Western Conference with 56 points.
Kyle Wellwood and Mason Raymond both scored in Saturday's shootout, but
Roberto Luongo was beaten by all three of the Calgary skaters he faced after
making 38 saves in regulation and overtime.
"It's a tough way to lose," Luongo said. "I'd like to have made at least one
or two saves there in the shootout."
Mikael Samuelsson scored to increase his point streak to seven games (5 goals,
2 assists), while Daniel Sedin also scored to give him a five-game point
streak (3g, 6a). Henrik Sedin added an assist, giving him five goals and 13
helpers over a nine-game points run and an NHL-leading 62 points on the
season.
Alexandre Burrows, meanwhile, failed in his bid to become the first NHL player
to notch three consecutive hat tricks, but he did tally an assist to give him
seven goals and two assists over his last five games.
Vancouver was without a pair of defenseman in Saturday's contest, as both Sami
Salo (cut above left eye) and Aaron Rome (head/facial laceration) were out.
Both players are again questionable for tonight.
The Canucks wrap a four-game homestand tonight and are 2-0-1 thus far on the
stand. They are also 4-0-1 in their last five home games overall and 18-6-1 as
the host this season.
Vancouver has won three of four and four of its last six at home versus
Nashville, including a 4-1 triumph on December 22 in which the Sedin twins
each notched a goal and two assists. That also came two weeks after the
Predators recorded a 4-2 home win of their own over the Canucks.
Patric Hornqvist has scored in both games versus the Canucks this year and was
one of two goal scorers in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Anaheim. Hornqvist's goal
was his fourth power-play tally in three games and 11th goal overall in his
last 13 contests.
Martin Erat, meanwhile, returned from a four-game absence due to a knee injury
to notch the other goal. He has 11 tallies and eight assists in his last 15
games, including a hat trick versus the Canucks on December 8 in the home win.
"It felt a little strange the first two periods," Erat said after the Anaheim
game. "It was really fast. I have to play much better."
Pekka Rinne gave up three goals on 21 shots in Saturday's loss to Anaheim as
Nashville ended a four-game homestand at 2-2-0. The Predators play seven of
their next eight on the road, including each of the next three as they tour
western Canada. They have won six of their last nine as the guest and are
12-7-2 on the road this season.
Nashville, seventh in the West with 55 points, did play without Jason Arnott
on Saturday due to an upper-body injury, while Joel Ward (wrist) and Francis
Bouillon (flu-like symptoms) are both questionable for tonight.

Barry Bonds Watch: Giants Slugger Says He'll Be Back
With only 21 home runs standing between him and Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds is indeed planning on coming back for more in 2007. At least, that's what his agent told the Los Angeles Times.
"Barry's going to play in 2007," Jeff Borris of Beverly Hills Sports Council told the Times on Tuesday. "I've had many discussions with Barry and he's going to play. My intentions are to see to it he's in a big-league uniform next season. Those are my marching orders."

Michael Vick is back, Brett Favre isn't and the NFC East remains the best division in the NFC, maybe in all of football.
As players start to gather for the start of another season, some things change and some stay the same in the world of the NFL.
Bet 2010 Super Bowl Odds
The NFC East has been the dominant division in the National Conference for a while, despite limited playoff success, save for the New York Giants surprise Super Bowl win two seasons ago.
Hell, there's a generation of kids in Texas who have never seen the Cowboys win a playoff game (last win was in 1996).
But collectively, the Giants, Eagles, Cowboys and Redskins (well, maybe not so much the Redskins) are as good as a division gets in an NFC conference that has struggled to stay competitive with the AFC side.
Sports bettors have both acknowledged the NFC East's dominance, as one glance at the NFL future odds menu will show.
Looking over the NFL betting odds at online sports book MySportsbook.com we see the top three teams listed to win the NFC Championship are all from the NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys - 7 - 1
Philadelphia Eagles - 13 - 2
New York Giants - 9 - 2
Slotting in behind these three are two teams from the NFC North: the Minnesota Vikings (15-2) and the Chicago Bears (10-1).
Again, despite the lack of recent playoff success, the Dallas Cowboys are popular with the sports betting community, as they hold 14% of all the money wagered on who will win the NFC Championship.
So far, the New York Giants are the bettors' favorite to represent their conference in the Super Bowl, as they have 24% of the overall NFC Championship betting volume.
And what about the Philadelphia Eagles? For the most part, the Eagles had a very productive offseason, the kind that could bring them back to the top.
They had a good draft adding the likes of WR Jeremy Maclin and RB LeSean McCoy.
Unfortunately, the team received a blow when long-time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away on Tuesday.
But this team will make a real run at the division title this year. Going into the regular season, Philly is listed at +240 to win the division.
Last season the Eagles were 9-6-1 SU and 10-6 ATS.
Teams from the NFC East will play teams from the AFC West in the regular season and the Eagles haven't really been a good bet in the last 20 games against the likes of San Diego, Oakland, K.C. and Denver, only going 8-12 ATS.
Two seasons removed from that Super Bowl title, the New York Giants see themselves listed as the odds-on favorite in NFC East championship futures at +162.
Plaxico Burress is gone and with him all the bad publicity surrounding the gun in the sweatpants incident, but can they replace him in the offense?
Last season the Giants were a very reliable bet going 12-4 ATS.
In the Giants' last 20 games against fellow teams from the NFC East; they are 13-7 ATS.
Dallas is listed at +240 to win the division.
Dallas went 9-7 SU and 7-9 ATS last season and with the amount of talent the Cowboys have, a similar performance won't do.
The Cowboys have been atrocious against divisional rivals, going 6-14 ATS in their last 20.
The Washington Redskins are longshots to win the division at +550.
