Avs attempt to win fifth straight in clash with Preds

Hockey Betting Lines

01/22/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Colorado Avalanche will aim for their first five-game winning streak since early last season when they welcome the Nashville Predators for tonight's clash at Pepsi Center.

The Avalanche have tied a season high with four straight wins and tonight can win five in a row for the first time since October 16-25, 2008.

Colorado has won five out of seven overall and comes into tonight with 62 points on the year, tying the Avs with Vancouver for first place in the Northwest Division.

The Avalanche took advantage of the floundering Edmonton Oilers in their last game on Monday, as they notched an easy 6-0 victory over the hapless visitors. Craig Anderson made 24 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and Colorado set a season high for goals scored.

Matt Duchene finished the game with two goals and an assist while Kyle Cumiskey scored twice and John-Michael Liles had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself," said Duchene. "But, my personal success doesn't mean anything if the team doesn't win. Tonight everyone did a good job, it was an all-around team effort."

Duchene, who leads all rookies with 33 points this year, has four goals and two assists over his last four games.

Tonight marks the third segment of a five-game homestand for the Avs, who have a solid 13-6-2 record as the host this year. Colorado will welcome Dallas on Sunday before capping the residency Monday against Minnesota.

The Predators have dropped their last two games and are coming off Thursday's setback in Phoenix. Scottie Upshall recorded a natural hat trick in the third period to lift the Coyotes to a 4-2 victory over Nashville.

Martin Erat and Patric Hornqvist each scored for the Predators, while Dan Ellis was beaten four times on 23 shots faced.

Tonight marks the second test of a four-game road trip for Nashville, which is 15-8-2 as the visiting club this year.

Nashville has 61 points and is currently sixth in the Western Conference standings. The Predators are 13 points behind Chicago for first place in the Central Division.

The Predators played their last game without forward J.P. Dumont, who was sidelined with an illness. Dumont, who is tied for the team lead with 32 points, is questionable for tonight.

Nashville has won both meetings with Colorado this year, but the clubs have split the last six encounters overall. The Preds have lost two of three and five of their last eight games in Denver.
